A tilt and turn window gives two opening modes from one handle. Turn the handle and the sash swings fully inward like a door for cleaning. Turn it back and the top tilts in for secure background air. Yes. The tilt position holds the sash inward at the top for background airflow while it stays mechanically locked on every side. Air permeability meets the highest tested class, with watertightness and wind resistance confirmed per project, so driving rain stays out. Harder to force than a propped sash. Yes. Full turn mode swings the sash into the room, so you clean both glass faces from indoors with no ladder, which suits upper floors and flats. Sashes run up to 1.3 m by 2.4 m, or 1.2 m by 3.5 m on standard solutions, at up to 160 kg. Check the clear opening against egress at quote.
Aluminium tilt and turn sashes take double or triple glazing, with acoustic options up to 40 mm reaching Rw 46 dB, plus solar control, obscure and toughened or laminated safety glass. The hinge set carries heavier triple units. Whole-window U-values run from 0.71 W/m2K on the high-insulation route where specified. Tilt and turn windows suit upper floors, flats, stairwells and openings where an outward sash would foul a walkway, balcony or neighbour.
