Large panels, slim interlocks and big glass
Sliding doors earn their place on maximum glass and minimum frame. Aluminium is strong enough to run large, heavy panels on tight sightlines. The interlock where two panes meet stays slim. The view stays open. We size each panel to the opening, not to a standard pane. That keeps the glass-to-frame ratio high.
We build single-track, double-track and multi-track layouts, with panels parked or stacked to suit the reveal. For very wide openings we can split the run across more panes to keep individual leaf weights and roller loads sensible. Thresholds, thermal performance and weather
Threshold choice wins or loses a lot of sliding door jobs. We spec it deliberately. Standard upstand thresholds go on weather-exposed elevations. Low or flush options suit a level transition to a patio or terrace. Tell us the floor build-up and whether level access matters. We detail the threshold to match.
On thermal performance, the units are thermally broken aluminium and we quote whole-unit Uw from 1.0 where specified, with the glazing spec and frame system chosen to hit the target. We can accommodate glazing from 22mm up to 58mm depending on the system, which gives room for high-performance double or triple units, and acoustic glass to Rw 46 dB where the site needs it. Bifold or sliding, and where each one fits
Trade buyers ask us this on most patio jobs. Sliding doors give the cleanest single sheet of glass. Closed-state sightlines are the slimmest. They take large panels well. But part of the opening is always glazed. The panels slide rather than fold away. Bifolds stack the leaves to one side. They open almost the full aperture. The cost is more frame visible when closed.
For a wide opening where the priority is the view and a flush threshold, sliders usually win. Where the client wants to throw the whole wall open in summer, a bifold is often the better route. Security, standards and accreditation
Aluminium sliding doors are often the most accessible opening on a property, so the locking and the security route matter. We supply PAS 24 security product routes where the job calls for it, and the doors are fabricated to BS EN 14351-1 for windows and doors. We provide UKCA marking and Declaration of Performance support so your paperwork stands up for building control and for the client.
